Rituals For Self-Empowerment

Sometimes, reality can be a bit of an illusion to me. You see, to some extent, we change our reality-your expectations, beliefs and thoughts you have formed about it all play a part in transforming reality. Of course many these beliefs and expectations are encoded into habits you integrate in your daily life. However, many of these habits can be transformed to create a more positive outcome. In turn, empower your life significantly.

One of the most effective ways of successfully obtaining self-empowerment is through rituals. If you look back into Ancient history, you'll discover the power of rituals in different civilization's traditions and that they reinforce habits and change the way we see and create our reality. Moreover, if you look into the life history of any highly successful individual, you will learn that they had some form of ritual in their daily routine. To the untrained eye, many of these rituals may seem very odd and eccentric, however,  don’t be deceived by appearances. Rituals are one of the most effective self-empowering tools.

I'm a big believer of setting intentions and cultivating a stronger sense of self through healthy and creative rituals. Below, I have shared four rituals which you can practice with in your own life and cultivate an amazing sense of constant self-empowerment.

For a long time now, I've always started my day with a strong sense of appreciation. The first thing I do when I wake up, is take everything around me and be thankful for what I have. There are people out there that don't have 2% of what I do. Those homeless people that have taken refuge under the abandoned building on the street next to mine, would probably give anything to be in my position. There are people out there- third world countries comes to mind- who have to go through dangerous lengths to simply have a glass of water. All I need to do is take a few steps to get to my kitchen sink. I can have all the water I want! These things seem so small to us and often go unappreciated. Acknowledging what we have won't change what others don't have but feeling gratitude towards it is the least we can do and more than many of us do. Honestly, I don't do this every morning- there are some days where I've slept in and I'm rushing around to prevent being late for my commitments. Despite this, I do this most mornings and it's incredibly effective. It reinforces happiness and positivity by shedding light on those awesome things, small or big, that grace your every day living.

Start your day by being thankful for something you have or a positive moment that happened the day before. Focus on that positivity, that moment of happiness or those things you often take for granted but should acknowledge more. Then go out into the world and see how it changes your mindset, thus transforming your day. This is also a great ritual to transfer into specific negative situations. When things feel as though everything that go possibly wrong in a day, is. Take a moment to step back and recognize all that you have.

Never underestimate the power of writing. Purchase a journal and take a moment to write in it every day. It may seem like a chore at first, however, after a little while, you'll start to feel it's positive, radiant effects. It doesn't have to be paragraphs after paragraphs or pages long. Perhaps it could just be one small sentence of something positive that happened on that day. On the other hand, you may want to use those pages to rant.

Journaling can take on many forms. For some it translates into a process of jotting down thoughts and reflections of the day. Other people could use journaling as a goal setting activity, or maybe to jot down daily ideas on how to improve their life and circumstances. Whatever the case may be, writing can become an incredibly effective ritual, particularly in the morning as it can naturally help stimulate your mind, thoughts and ideas. Moreover, it can help you refocus on what’s most important, while also allowing you to review lessons learned so that you can make better decisions in the future.

Exercising on a daily basis can boost your energy, enhance your concentration, promote emotional well-being as well as improve your health and mental alertness. It's incredibly effective and really enhances those feelings of self-empowerment. There's nothing quite like pushing yourself and seeing what your body can actually do and basking in that phenomenal feeling when you hit an all time best.
Exercise is often overlooked and I can imagine there were a few eye rolls when they saw this particular part. However, it doesn't have to be a chore- if it feels like that, then you need to find an activity that gets your body moving which you can fall in love with. Waking up and exercising can definitely be challenging, especially at first. Believe me, I've been there. However, it can become an amazing morning ritual which has you euphoric and empowered for the rest of the day. You don't need to spend a lot of time exercising either, it can be a few simple stretches or 20 squats. The excuses start and end with you.

The first thing you should do after getting out of bed is drink a glass of water. This may seem a little weird or incredibly obvious but it's surprising how many people don't do this. Your body has been cleaning house for 6-8 hours and needs to be hydrated upon waking. This will have your body, skin, mind and digestion looking and feeling amazing. When you treat your body right then it'll reward you with incredible feelings which will leave you empowered.

Do you have any daily rituals? If you were to add one more thing to this list, what would it be?

  1. I love how well-informed your posts are :) This was a great read because I could take some of this advice! Being grateful for what we have is one thing I should practice more. It's easy to complain, to feel like your life isn't as good as that of other people (especially as bloggers who witness the glam lives of dozens of other bloggers around us) but appreciation for all the things that we take for granted really put things in perspective. I should write down in a journal all the positive things that happen to me every day, it would definitely be a good way to stay focused and happy.
Also, thanks for the reminder about the water - I should definitely drink more of it :P

  2. Yes girl I LOVED this! It's so important to believe in yourself and have confidence, I used to be so self loathing and insecure but I'm honestly so much better now that I've grown up. Great post, I think it'll really help and motivate those who need it xx
