As I look outside my window and watch the last remaining snowflakes gently wash away, I’m hoping that I can say ‘Spring is finally here’ without jinxing it! I know it’s not only the British to suffer under the hands of the great white beast from the east and that means a lot of us are now in recovery from such a harsh Winter we’ve all had to endure.
The freezing cold can be no friend, particularly when it comes to your skin and it can be a challenge to suddenly indulge into Spring makeup when the winter has been so long. Therefore, I felt it would be beneficial for many to read up on my own personal beauty favourites for Spring time and perhaps learn about some new cruelty free products that have been under ones radar. What better way to honour the season of rebirth and transformation, than to invest in cruelty free products made out of love and compassion for all living things?
BYBI Mega Mist
This hyaluronic acid toner is a refreshing mist and an ideal pick-me-up for all skin types. Infused with Rose, orange blossom and lemon balm waters, the natural ingredients hydrate and nourish even oily or combination skin types. A huge bonus is that this product is from a completely certified cruelty free and vegan brand!
As someone who suffers with dry skin, this is the perfect go-to product for me throughout the day and is particularly refreshing on those hot, humid, sunny days. It’s light and literally draws bounce to the skin giving an instant healthy glow. This mist can also be used as a traditional toner after cleansing. Simply mist before applying skincare to maximise absorption, and all through the day to keep your complexion dewy.
SBC Vitamin ACE Skincare Gel
The SBC Skincare Gel is great for moisturising and repairing both face and body making this the perfect product for Spring time, when your skin is needing some TLC after the cold, unforgiving winter weather. The ingredients contain both Vitamin C and Vitamin E which supports healthy skin. I love using this after a shower and is so moisturising that it doesn’t require me to top up during the day. I prefer to use this on the dry areas on my body over my face as I like to use other products under my makeup. However, it is amazing for the face as it doesn’t clog up your pores like so many products are guilty of. The scent is wonderful and fragrant without being too overpowering and goes on like a gel. Despite this, it lathers up and the small beads melt to give a luscious hydrated look, leaving skin feeling soft.
This gel is one of my favourite bath time products that I couldn’t recommend more and if you don’t like it QVC offer a thirty day money back guarantee, or if you’re feeling generous you can always give it to me!
Charlotte Tilbury Valentine Lipstick
As soon as Spring made it’s self known, the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in Valentine has been my go to lip product. It’s the perfect combination of romantic and sweet with it’s gorgeous petal-rose pink colour. It was inevitable that I would adore this shade as it gives off a great sixties vibe. What I adore about Charlotte Tilbury’s lip products is that they apply smoothly with a buttery texture that is comparable to a million angels kissing your lips. Like many of her products this lipstick contains soothing orchid and Lipstick Tree extracts making the product hydrating and most importantly the ingredients are clearly natural, a huge factor I personally look for in beauty products.
Unfortunately this is a limited edition shade, therefore, I recommend the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in pillow talk as a very close alternative, which is a shade or two darker. However, her Bitch Perfect shade is also a favourite of mine for Spring and give the most beautiful natural pink tone to your lips, so I would give that a looksie too.
Liz Earle Perfume No. 20
If you’re a regular reader, you’ll already be aware about how much I love this perfume. I have always been a big believer that every lady should find her signature scent. In a world consumed by social media and everyone wanting to be different it can be difficult to find your own identity. I think that there’s something in the perfume a woman choses that helps her stand out from the crowd. Of course, you’re not going to be the only one with that perfume but through my own experiences, I’ve found that the same perfume can smell quite different from person to person.
The Liz Earle No.20 perfume smells as beautiful as it looks. It’s sophisticated but youthful, floral but not overbearing and long lasting. Classy fragrances are my favourite finds and exactly what I look for in a perfume but if that’s not quite your thing, Liz Earle do a wide range of perfumes that I’m sure can cater for everyone’s own personal preferences. The added bonus is they are so beautifully packaged, the bottle will be the perfect asset to sit upon your dressing table.
The Illamasqua beyond powder in OMG is a baked highlighting powder which adds a subtle, natural glow to your complexion. I always gravitate towards the more discrete highlighters in Spring as it catches the sun wonderfully this time of the year. Moreover, this highlighter is quite diverse in it’s application and looks wonderful with a damp fluffy brush over the eyelids as well as it’s more controversial for the cheekbones to give your face instant dimension and an elegant glow. This product is also very build able giving the wearer the option of a golden goddess look or the complexion of an ultra sun queen.
On a final note, Illamasqua are completely cruelty free and do not test on animals. Unfortunately, not all of their products are vegan. However, this happens to be on their vegan list and does not contain any animal products whatsoever.
Liz Earle Rosemary & Rock Rose Hand Repair
As you may be aware from my daily skincare routine, Liz Earle is a personal favourite of mine. Although I wish that they their products were vegan and not owned by horrible Avon and their lack of morals, I think Liz Earle offers amazing high quality products made with natural ingredients and the brand does not test on animals.
The rosemary and rock rose hand repair is unsurprisingly a wonderful product that I love carrying around with me in the spring. It’s comparable to the SBC skincare gel, however, this product is more appropriate for use during the day and is easily portable. Plus the packaging looks so beautiful, you’ll feel a tad elegant pulling this out of your handbag during your afternoon tea.
My hands start to crack and bleed during the cold weather if I don’t apply any products to them and this continues throughout most of the spring also. Therefore, the Liz Earle hand repair is an essential for me. The cream is rich, yet not greasy and leaves my palms feeling smooth, sensual and smelling wonderful. With an exquisite botanical blend of soothing echinacea and toning hops, plus antioxidant-rich beta-carotene and natural source vitamin E, this product has all the best ingredients perfect for looking after your hands. I’d also like to point out that it does contain glycerin (otherwise known as animal fat) however, the glycerine in this product is actually derived from almonds. How awesome is that?
The Illamasqua powder blusher duois without a doubt one of the best blushers I’ve ever used. I’m a huge fan of a heavy blusher look- if you haven’t already gathered from every photo taken of me. (Sorry not sorry.) The shades are highly pigmented giving me my desired look of super flushed cheeks and is very build able without looking too powdery. You can easily achieve a more discrete blush look by applying a very small amount to your face.
Illamasqua have this blush duo in various shades to cater to any look you may desire or for each complexion. I chose the Lover and Hussy containing a soft apricot and candy pink, the first is a perfect shade for every day wear whilst candy pink colour is ideal for evening wear. The blusher does not budge all day and blends smoothly with ease. Moreover, the blushers are matte which gives means you can go have more control with a highlighter without worrying there will be too much shimmer.
Nails Inc Jelly Shot
I have a rather bad habit of biting my lips when I’m nervous or in deep thought/concentration and thus my lips are always in bad shape if left untreated. It’s no shock I need a moisturising lip product all year round, however, I alternate which ones I use depending on the season. The INC.redible Jelly Shot Lip Quencher Watch Me Go is the perfect product come spring time. It’s still a little nippy outside but of course, not to the extent of the winter weather. Therefore, I need a product that is going to hydrate my lips, repair any broken skin but not be as moisturising as I require for colder weather and the Nails inc Jelly shot does exactly this. You have to ensure you are not being heavy handed when applying, however, it does apply smoothly and lasts hours.
